One million euros of DAAD funding for project “enGlobe”

The German-Brazilian strategic partnership AWARE enters a new phase and expands to Argentina and the USA. For its project called “enGlobe – engineers go global” THI receives one million euros of funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) over a period of four years. The aim is to build a global network in the field of automotive engineering and thus to further strengthen THI’s international profile. For the first time the new DAAD funding program “HAW.International” focuses exclusively on universities of applied sciences (= HAW in short in German) and their efforts towards internationalization through practice partnerships abroad.

Measures within the project include digital application-oriented student projects between THI, partner universities and partnering automotive companies from Brazil, Argentina and the USA. Furthermore, THI will encourage exchange between students and professors with so-called “Mini Autumn Schools” at the partnering universities. On their part, THI plans to hold guest lectures by professors from Brazil, Argentina and the USA on a regular basis.

To enable future engineers to spend longer periods of time abroad THI will offer them scholarships for theses or internships with the practice partners in America. International master and PhD students will be offered theses or research internships at CARISSMA, THI’s research and test center. The exchange of administrative personnel between the partnering universities will be possible with an international mobility program, too.

Since 2013, AWARE built up a close exchange in research and teaching between THI and the Brazilian universities Universidade do Paraná (practice partner Renault Brazil) and Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (practice partner Pollux). In 2017, the Argentinian university Universidad Technológica Nacional joined and will now – through enGlobe – be officially included to the network with its practice partner VW Argentina. Moreover, a new member will join the network: San José State University from the USA.
