The coating consists of a cobalt-based alloy and is applied in the form of gas atomized particles by means of a laser with a coaxial powder feed. This creates a metallurgically bonded layer less than one millimeter thick. The coated samples were tested for their resistance to corrosion and wear. In these tests, the analysis of the behavior of the macro- and microstructure is of particular interest.

The collaboration shows the great potential of combining the complementary strengths of two universities to work successfully on one task: UFPR has more capacity for the necessary sample coating and microstructure analysis, while THI has the appropriate equipment for surface evaluation.
