The strength of Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) and thus also of Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt lies, among other things, in their application orientation: the central objective of applied research is to put the findings of basic research into practice. This often results in a transfer with industry from which both sides benefit.
In recent years, many UAS have undergone a change from pure "teaching" to a stronger emphasis on applied research. This has created an environment that offers good conditions for research. THI has positioned itself as one of the leading research universities in Bavaria. Since UAS in Bavaria do not have the right to award doctorates, doctorates are always awarded in cooperation with a university. In this case, the doctoral project is supervised both by a professor at THI and by a professor at the cooperating university. THI has excellent contacts to universities in Germany and abroad.
In 2017, a cooperation agreement between THI and UFPR was signed within the AWARE network, which allows researchers at a German UAS to be awarded the Brazilian doctorate in addition to a dual degree. Since then, cooperation between Brazilian students at THI and German students at UFPR is possible.
