The Faculty of Sustainable Infrastructure in Neuburg is pleased to announce the approval of the AWARE follow-up project "sustainED: Education Network for Sustainable Futures", which will be realized thanks to the generous four-year project funding by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the framework of the "SDG Partnerships" program.
In collaboration with long-standing strategic Brazilian partners – Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), and the new partner Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUCPR) – this project will embed sustainability as a cross-cutting theme in all universities from 2024 to 2027. The goal is to develop modular qualification and further education offerings in the field of sustainability for management and engineering, including in the context of emerging countries. Thus, THI aims to integrate sustainability knowledge into teaching, research, and university management, contributing to the global transformation towards more sustainable development.
The project is structured around three pillars: knowledge transfer, awareness raising, and practical projects, with a special focus on teaching and students. Through collaboration with associated practice and policy partners in Germany and Brazil, and the implementation of innovative teaching events such as the "sustainED Practice" Summer Schools, a comprehensive understanding of sustainability will be promoted, including perspectives from emerging countries. After the end of the funding period, the developed qualification offerings will be made available to other courses and universities, aiming for a broader impact.
Project leader Prof. Holger Hoppe emphasizes the project's importance for promoting sustainability in higher education and establishing new competencies in the area of sustainability debates in emerging countries like Brazil at THI. The DAAD rated it as one of the top ten projects out of a total of 89 applications submitted nationwide.
