Fabio Luis Reway has an exciting time ahead of him: He is the first doctoral student from Brazil who has come to Ingolstadt especially to do research in the field of vehicle safety and to write his dissertation at THI. His research focuses on the development of test methods for automated driving systems using synthetic sensor data. The research goal is to support OEMs and automotive suppliers in validating their autonomous driving technologies (environment sensors and their algorithms) by means of simulation.
It is no coincidence that Reway moved to Ingolstadt, around 10,000 kilometers from his home town of Curitiba, for his doctorate. In spring and summer 2015, when he was still studying electrical engineering in Curitiba, he went to THI for his final thesis. THI has close ties to his home university, Universidade Federal do Paraná. THI's Brazilian network AWARE offered Reway the opportunity to come to Ingolstadt with a scholarship for his thesis. At the Center for Applied Research, he developed two applications that enable data exchange between one PC and several avionics computers. At THI, he quickly learned to appreciate the close connections to industry and the possibility to work on research questions from real business practice. So he came back.
